Coral Reef Pool & Daily Shark Feedings



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Join us at Sandoway House Nature for our daily shark feedings! 

Learn a multitude of fun and interesting facts about the oceans top predators, while watching them eat their breakfast.

Feedings are offered Tuesday thru Saturday at 10:30am and Sunday at 1:30pm, admission is $4 per-guest 3 years of age and above.

The Albert and Ann Becker Shell Collection



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This private shell collection is the largest in South East Florida having nearly 10,000 "museum

quality" shells. These beautiful shells were collected over a fourty year period by a husband and

wife team, Albert and Ann Becker.

 

In 2002 the entire world class collection was dontated to the Sandoway House Nature Center

from the Linda Becker Dean Family. After Linda's inheritance of the collection from her aunt

and uncle, the family wanted to find the right home for the precious shells. After much research

and planning, they chose Sandoway House Nature Center to preserve the collection in its

entirety. The center currently has over 3,000 of the 10,000 shells on display.


Delray Wreck and Hex Tank Exhibit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This unique exhibit features the Delray wreck, visitors can spend time looking at diagrams and

artist renditions of the S.S. Inchulva, also known as, the Delray Wreck. This 4,823 ton, 386 foot

long steamship was sunk and destroyed off of Delray Beach on September 11, 1903 by a large

hurricane. This room is also home to the nature centers 450 gallon hexagon aquarium home to

native Florida fish and crustaceans.

Take a step back in time when you enter Sandoway Houses, Historic Delray Room. This unique

exhibit features a wide variety of photos and antiques. This room allows visitors to get a sense of

life in Delray Beach during the 30’s and 40’s.


Florida Reptile Room


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sandoway’s resident reptiles and creepy crawlies call this room home. Get up close and personal

with some of Florida’s native and invasive reptile species, including, our Cuban Knight Anole,

Basilisk Lizard, Glass Lizard, Box Turtle and much more!


Discovery Porch

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sandoway Houses Discovery Porch is home to some of Florida’s native Turtle and Tortoise

species. Spend time with Speedy, our large gopher tortoise and Gigi, the Florida Box Turtle.

Enjoy our fresh water turtle pond home to our Red Bellied Slider and Florida Soft Shell Turtle.

Don’t forget to take to time to talk with our beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw, Mr. Crystal!


Teacher Resource Room

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This beautiful second story beach front room is full of books, periodicals and catalogs focused

on the natural world. In addition, it features a wide variety of sea turtle information including,

photographs taken before sea turtle conservation laws, species information, nesting information

and the natural history of Delray’s sea turtles. You can even have your picture taken with a

replica green sea turtle.

Step outside to enjoy a fantastic second story ocean front view from the center observation deck.

This beautiful view is a great photo-op and binoculars are provided.
