Group Education Programs

 

At the nature center, we provide a unique environmental education experience where guests of all ages explore Florida’s wildlife and coastal history in a 1936 beachfront house surrounded by native dunes and butterfly gardens.

 

Program description:
(Programs may include several of the following activities depending on time constraints and our audience- program time is approximately 1.5 hours)

  • Shark Feedings
  • Stingray and Lobster feedings
  • Live animal encounters with snakes, spiders, turtles, tortoises and more.
  • Guided history tour of nature center
  • Traveling special topic exhibits (please inquire)
  • Special programming including:
    • Fossil talks
    • Garden walks
    • Shell talks
    • Fossil dig
    • Nature Craft

Program details:

Group programs are offered at 10am and 1pm Tuesday thru Friday. The fee is $5 per-person, ages 4 and up please.  We require a 10:1 ration of students to adults, for every ten children one adult is free all other adults will be charged.  The maximum group size we can accommodate is 60 students; larger groups will be broken up into smaller groups and rotated through the exhibits.  To meet classroom needs, special programs are available with advanced notice to the nature center (Allow at least 2 weeks).  Title One and Charter Schools are admitted at free or reduced prices, for more information please contact the center at 561-274-7263 and ask for Peggy Smith.

Tooth for Thought

 

 

This fun and interesting craft is great for children and families. Participants will construct their own shark tooth necklace while learning fun and interesting facts about the oceans top predators, SHARKS! The program is offered Tuesday thru Friday at 1pm and will be offered during weekends starting in December. Each necklace is $3.00 in addition to general admission ($4). Fossil Talk Friday’s

Take a step back in time and learn about some of Florida’s most prehistoric inhabitants. Guests will have a chance to learn about mammoths, mastodons, saber cats and much, much more! Admission is only $4 per-person everyone three years of age and above, starts at 1pm (program is included in cost of admission).  For more information please contact the nature center at     561-274-7263.

 

Sandoway House's Beach Walk, Beach Talk

Presented by: Dr. Angela Witmer

Join us Saturday, December 3, at 9 am for this exciting NEW monthly program and take a guided walk of the beach.  Participants will discover the major players on the beach, investigating plants on the dunes, animals found on the beach and in the water in addition to interactions of the land and sea. This exciting, hour long, program is $5 per-person, all ages welcome and it includes admission to the nature center after the walk. For more information contact the nature center at 561-274-7263.

Sandoway House's Treasures of the Beach Walk

Ever wonder what crazy objects wash up on the beach? Come join us, Saturday, December 17 at 9am, and learn some tips to beach combing and shell identification. This hour long program will give guests the opportunity to comb the beach in search of their very own treasure. The cost is $5 per-person and includes general admission to the nature center, ages 10 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult). Space is limited so call and book your spot today!
